Abundant Life Community Church has been operating in Tauranga for over 20 years, having been established in August 1982.
In the early nineties the church received prophetic words based on Isiah 54:2,3.:
As we pondered these promises, God began to show us that we needed our own premises to contain the increase. The church felt challenged to plan for church growth and believed that we should ask for a financial sign which would be 10% of the cost of our own premises. Confirmation came when an anonymous donation of $20,000 was received shortly after.
We were convinced that we should purchase a building and that the price would be $200,000.
It was more than a year later before we discovered the property here at 36 Sutherland Road, and another two years before we were able to secure it for the church at the price we believed God had shown us. We had many trials of faith in that time but experienced as many triumphs of grace as 'God made a way for us'.
In March 1997 we officially opened the Abundant Life Community Centre
after tidying up the land and converting an existing building into a 200 seat auditorium. Most of the necessary work of altering and renovating was accomplished through willing volunteers from the Church.
The next step was to quickbuild the offices and youth centre during January and February of 1998. Our church people once again showed their commitment and skill by completing the building in a remarkably short period of time.
Miraculously, we were able to freehold the property by March 1999.
In line with our original vision, we were repeatedly encouraged to expand, increase, 'push out the walls', and 'build bigger'. Seeking to be faithful to the vision that God had given us, we are now planning a new building complex that will seat 600 people in the main auditorium.
We've always had a heart to help those in need in our community. During the past 20 years we have provided many diverse activities and services in order to help people in need. Over the years we have assisted many people to find new hope and purpose for life through the programmes and Bible studies that we conduct.
Our vision and purpose is summed up in the simple phrase, Heal, Teach, Restore and Release.
Our aim is to provide faciliities on-site to fulfil this vision. We aim to minister to the spiritual, social and practical needs of both our church members and those of the local community. IS54:The Centre is the next practical step to achieve this vision.
Through the building project, IS54:The Centre, we are investing in the work that God would have us do in our community.
